Every home has a story. This is where we come to tell them.
There is something about an old front door that has always made me wonder.
Who turned the key before us? Who hurried through it with children in tow, carried groceries across its threshold, welcomed friends for supper, or stood there saying goodbye?
I have always believed that a home is so much more than the things we put inside of it.
It is the sound of people gathering in the kitchen. The chair someone always chooses. The dishes that only come out for company. The worn spot on an old wood floor. The porch light left on because someone you love hasn't made it home yet.
Those are the things that make a house feel like home.
And that is where The Lantern & Oak begins.
A Place for Stories of Home
The Lantern & Oak is an editorial Journal devoted to historic homes, timeless interiors, and Southern living — but at its heart, it is really about the way we live within our homes.
Here, we'll step inside houses with stories to tell.
We'll explore beautiful interiors that feel collected rather than decorated. We'll wander through historic homes, porches and gardens. We'll talk about design, restoration, traditions, hospitality, seasonal living and the little rituals that make ordinary days feel special.
Some stories will teach you something.
Some may inspire you to change a room in your own home.
And every once in a while, I hope one makes you remember something you had almost forgotten.
Because I don't believe beautiful homes are created simply by following trends.
I believe the most beautiful homes are the ones that feel like someone lives there.
🔑 The Key
You'll notice an old skeleton key appearing throughout The Lantern & Oak.
It isn't there simply because it's beautiful.
The key opens the story.
Every time you see it, imagine that we're unlocking another door together — perhaps into a historic house, a design story, an old tradition, or a memory worth carrying forward.
Around here, every story begins with a key.
🌿 The Oak
Then there is the oak.
Oak trees have stood beside homes and watched generations come and go. Their roots deepen while their branches continue to grow.
That felt like the perfect symbol for what I hope to celebrate here.
The oak grounds the story.
It represents history, family, craftsmanship, permanence and the beautiful things we inherit — not only the things we can hold in our hands, but the traditions, stories and ways of living that are passed from one generation to the next.
The key lets us inside.
The oak reminds us why it matters.

And finally, you'll find the lantern.
There is something incredibly comforting about seeing a porch light glowing in the distance.
It says someone is home.
It says you're expected.
It says come in.
That's why every story here will eventually lead us back to the lantern.
The lantern brings us home.
At the end of each Journal entry, it will be our little reminder that while one story may be ending, the door here is never really closed.
There's always a light on at The Lantern & Oak.

Maybe you're here because you love old houses.
